Funny, I listen to the podcast and thought the same thing. So I asked Death.

He said he only comes to the dead.

....that confused me.

The part Death didn't share about Kaspar, was that he'd fallen down his basement stairs.

Kaspar was already dead.

Death was using duct tape to hold up the body.

Also makes sense why he said Kaspar's wife wouldn't hear them.

I'm sure Death could, and would be willing to answer questions, but as you can imagine...he's a busy gent.

I’m sure he is but I do have one quick question. Is death the… I don’t know the right term… guider… harvester… of souls only in the realm of wanted Hero or is he over the entire universe? And if so… is there like a “reaper family reunion” or a “soul harvesting 101 high school reunion?”

HAHAHAHA....VERY good question.

I had this conversation yesterday, and the answer is, Death is an office. One office, per world. He is not omnipresent,...he has 'employees' all around us, who help, depending upon circumstances...just like he looks different to different people.

I said, "That sounds difficult."

Death: "Think THAT'S difficult...did you hear me humming without lips?"

Yes, Death is an office. One I inherited.

...I'm sorry to say this, but it is unlawful for me to disclose any details of my previous life. Let's end this question with "I was chosen for specific reasons, and have given myself to serve with grace and kindness, to the full measure of my employers expectations."

The office exists for each set of creations, Joseph. That's how it works. If there is a world where mortals exist, you will find one of my colleagues.

...and one of my favorite 'official' titles is simply, "The Collector."

Sounds so FRIENDLY, doesn't it?
