We hosted the Easter egg hunts for years. Ours was on a road through the woods and the eggs were hidden on both sides and in some of the vehicles that parked there. The eggs would sometimes have prizes instead of candy and we've found eggs from five years previous in some cases. Loads of fun!
We've been blessed to be essentially adopted by another family and all their kids are nieces and nephews to us. Some of them are in their mid-teens now so We've been doing the Easter egg hunt for something like 10+ years now.
Something I believe in SO deeply, is that family isn't about blood--it's about connection.
I'm a father of 13 beautiful children. My wife and I have 31 incredible grandchildren.
...but there are many, MANY others, who have claimed my wife and I over the years, and we claim them BACK.
When a beautiful blonde-haired, blue-eyed 4 year old runs up to you, wraps her arms around your leg and professes her love for you...how do you NOT claim her back?
Her mother just stood there, smiling.
There are families we are connected to, who lost their fathers, father-in-laws and grandfathers.
All of them...my friends...and I miss them.
So their families ARE mine.
That being said, I can honestly and with a very....very full heart...say that my wife and I have 80 grandchildren (and counting), and last year had our very first GREAT-grandchild.
It really is. You know that 'blood is thicker than water' saying? How it goes fully is 'The blood of the covenant (found family) is thicker than the water of the womb' and I have seen that to be true for years now.
The people that say you can't choose your family are dead wrong. I have kids that don't share a drop of blood with me call me uncle and mean it in every possible way.
You are, without a doubt, tremendously blessed. I'm a little late to the game but I would love to have just as big a family someday.
Likewise, Jaime. I'm glad we found each other on here.
Also, why haven't you beat this cold yet? My mother would be filling you full of cayenne chicken soup if you were within range, lol. Seriously though, I hope you get well soon.
You and Ann are definitely the Voice Mod squad! I’ll have to check out the recording of the Fiction Cartel, ‘cos it’s a grandkids day.
wooHOO! Have fun with the kiddies!!
Saturday was SO much fun around here =)

I've corrected people about that quote for some time.
...you're the first person I've seen use the correct quote.
I have a seriously compromised immune system...so I don't know. It's hanging on like a.....
ungh.
...I'm too tired to know how it's hanging on.
Gotcha. Get some rest and stop talking to people online. They'll understand.
