So many good points! I can't even pick one to quote. This whole series has made me rethink a few of my stories and the current trajectory of Riding the Wind is entirely because of what you've said in this series. I'm going to experiment with more fallible characters in the future too. The points about imagination are simply spot on. I used to be an avid reader (practically rabid, in fact) and then I went to college. Six years later, the only thing I read was textbooks. When I started to write I hade to resuscitate my imagination which had atrophied. You are right that the imagination is the test bed for lofe and kids need that practice. You see the same thing to a certain extent in baby animals. Most of their play is developing life skills. The point about Miles Morales was spot on as well and if you watch that scene, he takes shards of glass with him because he leapt when he was still scared. I want to write characters like that and I think you have shown me how. Very well done, sir!

I am SO happy to hear that, DW.

I don't remember a time when I felt so focused and dedicated to talk to writers and to (hopefully) encourage them to do MORE...so readers, especially kids, can benefit from our creativity.

These lessons are from my own life, so I know this works...and as you shared, it worked with you also...LOL, my only hesitation is the science stuff.

THAT....is all new to me and had to be looked up.

Many, MANY people over the past 30 years have ignored what I had to say, because it was "just my opinion".

....welllll, it STILL is....BUT I am trying so hard to find science to back my perspective. I'm personally learning quite a bit also. At this point, I'm grateful for this opportunity, because I have discovered aspects of fiction I never knew existed, I was just hoping and doing the best I could with what I understood.

....or THOUGHT I understood.

Still learning, and this was one of the best series I've done.

Almost done with the book...which will be published before this series is complete on Substack.

[grin]

Cause not everyone I want to encourage is ON Substack.

....yet.

The science was fascinating! It came through very well and makes a lot of sense! What's the book about?

The book will be these 12 articles plus a couple more exclusive for the print version...

I'd like to get this series into the hands of writers and parents.

Sounds good! I don't know how many of this series you've posted but I've only read three so far and each one is spun gold.
