How far into these characters were you when you wrote this? They are so rich and clearly well known to you long before you got here. I just wondered how long it took before you sounded this real and smooth?
Even though this is a new, revised and expanded edition from a previous book, Trench Wars, I've been writing these guys f(and gals) or almost 20 years.

Because if you want character development, and personal notes, well...then that's closer to 36 years.
